Book Typesetting and Page Layout
I’ve made my pricing guide as simple as possible, so that you can get a rough idea of cost from your manuscript word or page count. For a novel or biography, a well sized and spaced page holds about 350 words, so a 70,000 word manuscript would be around 200 pages. However, every book is different, and there are lots of options available that can help to keep the final cost within your own budget. The following figures are a guide only, feel free to contact me for advice and to get a more specific price tailored to you own book.
Novels & Biography style – £2 per page
Novels, biographies etc. with no pictures or a simple contained picture section.
Guides & textbook style – £4 per page
Recipe books, business guides, directories etc. with multiple sections, tables and images.
Complex layout books – £10 per page
Magazine style books, detailed food books, reference books etc. with complex editorial style layouts requiring bespoke design and attention to each page.
Full Bespoke Cover Design – from £400
This option is the full works design and artwork creation from scratch. Includes a research/discussion stage with the client, development of three original design concepts to choose from. One chosen concept worked up to print-ready final artwork.
Budget Cover Design – from £200
You may already have a strong idea or image that you would like to use for your cover. I can create a print-ready jacket from your own supplied image, concept or sketch. Alternatively I can create a simple typographic style cover based on your branding. This is a great option for a business or self publisher on a tight budget.
Proofreading and Editing
Ideally the manuscript would be fully edited, proofread and corrected before supplying to me for design and typesetting. If you require any final proofreading and editing I can arrange this service from an experienced professional for an additional fee. The cost of this extra service would be determined by the extent of your requirements and will be quoted after an initial consultation.
Record Covers – I don't just do books!
More recently with the resurgence of vinyl, I have been asked to produce designs for record sleeves and the accompanying booklets. Album cover design has a lot in common with book cover design, both concerned with representing the ideas contained within the cover, as well as creating a positive marketing image. It's something I love to do and am always interested in getting involved with.
Please note these prices are only a guide. Quotes for more complex jobs will be worked out after an initial chat to discuss your specific needs.
